Well this years sessions since September have seen many new players join our group in Bedford.
The 7-8pm session now attracting around 30 players, the 8-9pm session between 36 to 42 players on a regular basis.
Due to demand we have also added a more gentle Thursday afternoon session at the Bedford Cricket Club between 2-3pm which is now attracting 18 players weekly.
We now break for the festive season and look forward to the Monday sessions restarting on 9 January 2017. The Thursday sessions because they are played on grass will resume on April 20th.
Thanks to you all for your continued support, including over payments of subs and donations which we will be donating to the local Prostate Cancer charity in April. This amount is currently around £300.
Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year and lets look forward to another successful year of Walking Football in Bedford.
21st March was our last night for this term at Gordon Fields attended by 70 players over the two sessions, we resume our Monday night sessions on the 6th June for 6 weeks on grass at the Bedford Cricket ground, Church Lane, Bedford. There will only be one session from 7-8 pm, the bar will be open afterwards which hopefully be showing any euro games that may be on that evening. New players always welcome. See you all then.
For the second year running we made the last 8 in this national competition. The finals in Sheffield were of a high standard this year and sadly we got caught cold in our first game losing 6-0 and never recovered losing our other 2 group games 2-1. Congratulations to the winners of our group Grimsby Ancient Mariners who went onto win the final against Sheffield United 1-0. Oh well back to the drawing board for next year.
Very pleased with the attendance to the Monday night sessions this year, we are now getting 70 players on a regular basis.
We are seeking more players to the 7 – 8pm session as we now hire the full pitch. We have 22-26 players in this session making up 4 teams so it would be great to get enough players to form 6 teams to create the same round robin format we have in the later session.
Keep spreading the word folks
31st August bank holiday Monday we will be holding a family picnic event at Bedford Cricket ground, Church Lane, Bedford from 4pm onwards. We will have a pitch set up for anybody to try walking football and some skill games and a free raffle. Bring the family, friends and your picnic as a prelude to the start of our normal sessions that restart on Monday 7 September. The cricket club bar will be open from 5-7pm for drinkies. Fingers crossed for fine weather….
Monday 13 July saw our last summer sessions at the Bedford Cricket ground. Attended by 48 players it finished off a very successful 6 week session at the club, we shall certainly be looking to return next summer when our sessions finish on the all weather pitches at Gordon Fields.
Don’t forget our two sessions at Gordon Fields resume again on Monday 7 September same times as before, 7-8pm and 8-9pm arrive 15 minutes before your kick off to allow teams to be sorted.
New players welcome but please contact us first so we can get relevant forms sent out and filled in and discuss which session would be best for you.
Look out for details on our proposed family fun day on Bank Holiday Monday 31 August at the Bedford Cricket Ground.
Thanks for your support, see you all soon
Steve & Ian
Attendance at our 6 summer sessions at the Bedford Cricket ground in Church Lane are exceeding all expectations. 50 players have turned up to play on each of the last 2 Monday evenings. New faces arriving weekly which is encouraging to see, its almost a shame that next week, 13 July will be our last session untill we return to our normal all weather pitches at Gordon Fields, Brickhill Drive, Bedford, the first Monday in September where the 2 normal sessions of 7-8 and 8-9 will resume.
Thanks to all that have attended and your continued support.
Want to join us? then just email us to confirm the next session available.
Keep spreading the word – keep healthy – keep active.
Well our trip to Manchester to play in the finals didn’t quite go to plan. In a very close first game we lost 1-0 to Kicks, although we had a lot of possession we could not get the ball past an on form Kicks goalkeeper. Our second game saw us beat Eastleigh FC 3-1, once again in a very close contest. Our final game against the Croydon Casuals meant we had to go for the win, unfortunately pushing forward we conceded a goal on a break away and then a very efficient Croydon side finished us off with a second goal. The quality of the finalists was impressive and playing in the small 5 a side enclosed pitches made for intense, relentless 15 minute games. Definitely a good learning experience and we look forward to competing in next years tournament if it takes place.
At least we got close to the FA Cups…
This bank holiday of 25th May will see our appearance in the final 8 of the Nationwide Peoples F.A cup tournement in Manchester in the Walking Football section.
Overnight accommodation booked and the squad looking forward to the competition.
Our last session on a cold and wet evening on the all weather tonight until September, was attended by 14 players to the first session and 28 to the 8-9 session. A bit down on our usual numbers but understandable being half term week. A little break now until our summer sessions on grass at the Bedford Cricket ground starting the 1st June.
P.S don’t forget about our social evening out Thursday 2nd April, meet at the Bankers Draft 8 pm onwards.
